Balto
Balto è il progetto musicale di Daniel Sheron, un giovane musicista americano che, dopo essersi trasferito in Siberia, ha scritto canzoni ispirate da quella terra lontana. Nel giro di poco tempo e con una buona quantità di materiale in mano ha messo insieme una band formata da 6 elementi e in un solo giorno ha registrato l’album “October’s Road” – una collezione di 10 brani toccanti, tra Fleet Foxes, Mumford & Sons e i miei amati Frontier Ruckus – in uno scantinato situato a Brooklyn.

Dopo tre EP e un’attività live incessante i Mumford & Sons giungono finalmente al traguardo del primo album. “Sigh No More (Island Records) contiene cinque brani già editi, che avevano fatto gridare al miracolo più di un critico oltremanica (“The Cave”, “Winter Winds” che altro non è che “But My Heart Told My Head” del 10″ “The Cave And The Open Sea, “Roll Away Your Stone”, “White Blank Page”, “Awake My Soul”), più una manciata di ballate folk inedite, intrise di malinconia e disperazione (su tutte spiccano “I Gave You All” e “Thistle & Weeds”). Un esordio brillante.

I Mumford & Sons hanno due magnifici EP alle spalle (acquistabili qui) e un nuovo 10″, intitolato “The Cave and the Open Sea”, in uscita il 6 aprile per Chess Club.
Da queste parti lo si attende con ansia. E’ sufficiente ascoltare le due canzoni che saranno incluse nel 10″ – “But My Heart Told My Head” e “The Cave” – nel video postato qui sotto in versione live, per avere l’acquolina in bocca.
